He Kete Iti is a collaborative exhibition developed and toured by the Govett‑Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre.
He Kete Iti brings together contemporary Māori weaving, and historic kete from the Whanganui Regional Museum collection, to explore how knowledge is generated, shared and sustained through practice, collaboration and intergenerational exchange.
Led by renowned multimedia artist Dr Maureen Lander MNZM (Ngāpuhi, Te Hikutū), He Kete Iti is co‑curated with Taarati Taiaroa (Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Apa). The exhibition foregrounds a tauira‑based kaupapa that places learning, making and looking closely at taonga at the centre of contemporary practice.
Join artists Aroha Ranginui, Purewa Hodge and Maureen Lander for a guided tour of the exhibition. Together they will discuss the mātauranga Māori gained from participating in the project, and share insights into the ideas and processes behind their kete iti on display.
Followed by a special performance from Ngā Pākeke o Rātana Kapahaka in the Museum foyer at 11am. All welcome.
