Field Punishment No.1 is an international award winning New Zealand film based on the book We Will Not Cease about conscientious objectors Mark Briggs, Lawrence Kirwan and others during World War I. It tells the story of 14 non-religious, absolutist conscientious objectors from New Zealand who were sent to military camps, prisons, and the Western Front in 1916 to force them into military service, despite their pacifist beliefs.

The film primarily follows Archibald Baxter and Mark Briggs, two of the most committed objectors, who refust to kill or participate in the war in any capacity. Baxter’s brothers, John and Sandy are also part of the group.

Screened with special permission by Lippy Productions.

This event is part of the Arts For Peace project, a national film and theatre tour supported by Quakers Aotearoa.

Koha is appreciated.
