Discover live music in the heart of Whanganui Regional Museum with the Saturday Sounds session.
Held in the Museum’s Atrium, this Saturday afternoon series celebrates talented local and visiting musicians across a diverse range of styles, creating a relaxed live music experience in the unique surroundings of the Museum.
On 28 November we welcome Rik Jones and Kate Valentine.
Kate Valentine is a soulful singer-songwriter bringing old-school jazz and soul to life through the warm, distinctive sound of her resonator guitar. Alongside her heartfelt covers, Kate writes original songs that carry powerful stories, honest emotion, and a message that stays with you.

Rik Jones penned his first song at just 12 years old and has continued writing songs on and off for more than five decades. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of styles and subjects, he has developed a distinctive musical voice and performance style that is uniquely his own. Original songwriting has always been at the heart of Rik’s musical journey, and audiences can expect an engaging mix of thoughtful lyrics, memorable melodies, and personal stories.
The performance will run for about an hour. Admission is free, no booking is required. Koha entry is appreciated. All welcome.
