Discover live music in the heart of Whanganui Regional Museum with the Saturday Sounds session.
Held in the Museum’s Atrium, this Saturday afternoon series celebrates talented local and visiting musicians across a diverse range of styles, creating a relaxed live music experience in the unique surroundings of the Museum.
On 15 August, Jazz pianist and composer Rick Baum returns to the Whanganui Regional Museum for the third in his series of performances. Following the release of his solo piano album Rebirth of Passion, Rick will be joined by bassist Dr Mike McAuley for a lively set of funky jazz grooves and improvisation. Mike is a highly experienced musician who recently moved to Whanganui.

Rick and Mike will be accompanied by Rohan Goodsir. Rohan began drumming in his teens and has performed across a wide range of musical genres throughout his career. Before moving from Boston to Whanganui in 2018, he worked with internationally renowned artists in the United States, including sharing the stage with Gregg Allman and Keith Richards, and is now an active member of Whanganui’s vibrant music community.
The performance will run for about an hour. Admission is free, no booking is required, koha is always appreciated. All welcome.
Whether you’re discovering a new artist, enjoying live music with friends, or simply looking for a relaxing outing, Saturday Sounds is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for upcoming performances.
