A public talk hosted by Tereora Crane
Tereora Crane is of Cook Islands Māori/NZ Pākeha descent and has 30 years of experience working across education and cultural heritage sectors in Aotearoa. While based in Auckland, Tereora’s Pākeha whakapapa has held strong ties to Whanganui since the 1860s.
Tereora is the Senior Education Specialist with the National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa. He specialises in New Zealand and Pacific history, te ao Māori, the New Zealand wars and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Tereora is a past member of the Cook Islands Voyaging Society and is comitted to sharing his knowledge and experiences of voyages of discovery. Tereora is in Whanganui to accompany the National Library’s replica voyaging waka hourua Whakaura – a unique education resource at Whanganui Regional Museum to celebrate Puanga/Matariki.
Join us for Tereora’s presentation on oceanic wayfinding, and waka, exploring some of the tools and techniques used for voyaging.
