This month’s Outfit of the Month explores a stunning 1879–80 silk ensemble made in Paisley, Scotland, and worn to Aotearoa by a new bride beginning her life here.

Join Kaihāpai Taonga/General Curator, Dr Sue Garside, and Kaiwhakaahua me te Kaiāwhina Kohinga/Photographer & Collections Assistant, Kathy Greensides, as they uncover the people behind the garment—from the skilled sisters who made it, to Mary Thomson, who brought it to New Zealand and raised a family of 14.

With intricate detailing, complex construction, and a rich human story, this is fashion history at its most personal.

Everyone is welcome. No need to book. Admission is free. Koha for the Museum is always appreciated. The outfit will remain on display throughout May.
