Join the Museum team!

The Whanganui Regional Museum has two rare and exciting opportunities to join our small but mighty team.

We are looking for individuals with energy, curiosity and the ability to work with the public. These roles help the museum to share, translate and unlock the knowledge and potential for reconnection in our collections.

Whanganui is a great town with a huge focus on arts, culture and the outdoors. The lifestyle is fantastic, and our community is very supportive.

The Kaihāpai Taonga/Curator or Senior Curator will help the museum speak with authority and authenticity, based on the continuing development of our collections and the associated research and scholarship. You will also share the collection and expertise with the wider professional community, based on research which underpins and directs all that you do. You will play a key role in all areas of museum programming, but particularly exhibition development. To be appointed at the Senior level, at least five years curatorial expertise and research outputs are required, and experience working across collections and exhibitions in a small museum is desirable.

The Kaihāpai Taonga Māori/ Taonga Māori Collection Manager will help the Museum speak with authority and authenticity, specifically in terms of its bicultural practice and operations, particularly in relationship to our internationally significant taonga collection. Working closely with our Pou Rauhī/Māori Advisor, you will focus on collection documentation and care; interpretation of the collections in museum programming; and repatriation and iwi/hapu liaison. Both entry level and more experienced candidates will be considered.

For all enquiries, the position description, and the process of application, email the Pou Ārahi/Director: BronwynL@wrm.org.nz

Applications close on Friday 23 August at 5pm and interviews will be held in early September.
