Dressed to Kill: The Hidden Dangers of Victorian Fashion
The Outfit of the Month for July is a rare mid-19th century silk evening dress combining exquisite craftsmanship and revealing the darker side of Victorian style. Featuring vibrant green foliage believed to have been coloured with an arsenic-based dye, this rare gown reveals the hidden dangers lurking beneath fashionable appearances.
Join Trish Nugent-Lyne, Pou Ārahi/Acting Director, for the next Outfit of the Month talk at Whanganui Regional Museum. Explore the dress’s fascinating history, intricate construction, global textile connections, and recent conservation work.
Everyone is welcome. No need to book. Admission is free. Koha for the Museum is always appreciated. The outfit will remain on display throughout July.
